Auto Mode

The three styles, the four modes, the summary after each hunt, and what trains while the game is closed.

What it does

With Auto on, your hero hunts alone: fights the creatures nearby, loots, heals with Mend and potions, eats, dodges and runs for the nearest protection zone when things turn grim. When the backpack grows heavy or the potions run out, it goes to town, sells the loot, buys what it lacks and comes back. In Kestrelby it can also store items in the depot and gold in the bank (see In town). If the backpack fills with loot no one in town will buy, it hunts on without it and tells you so once in the chat. Auto runs while the game is open: on a computer it carries on behind another tab, muted; on a phone, until the browser pauses the page. For what goes on while the game is closed, see Training on the dummy.

Press B to hunt where you stand and O to open the Auto window. On a phone, tap AUTO to start and hold it to open the window. Any step or blow of your own hands control back to you.

The four modes

Hunt here
hunts around where you stand.
Route
walks the areas you choose, up to eight. With none chosen, it goes to the nearest ones for your level.
Explore
seeks out areas you have not seen yet.
Return to town
goes to town, sells, stores, buys, heals and stops.

The three styles

Careful
heals early, only takes on weak creatures and hunts for 15 minutes. Good to begin with.
Balanced
the default. Weighs risk against experience and hunts for 30 minutes.
Aggressive
fights in offensive mode, takes on any creature and hunts for an hour.

In the style editor you can change every value and choose each style’s spells. In Options you choose what it loots, whether it chases what flees and whether it puts on better gear it finds.

In town

In Kestrelby, Auto can also use the depot chest and the bank beside Penrose, down in the Wardens’ Hall cellar. The other towns have neither, so there it keeps everything carried.

The depot list
in the style editor, the Keep page lists what you carry, each with Sell and Depot. What you mark Depot goes into the depot chest on every trip to town and is never sold. Auto keeps one of each tool.
Taking out
before it shops, Auto takes out of the depot the potions, antidotes and tools it lacks, and buys only the rest.
Bank the gold
on the Supplies page. When it is on, Auto deposits its gold with Penrose and keeps only the next trip’s potions, food and, on another island, the fare home. It is off by default.

Each stop says one line in the chat: “Auto: stored 3 items in the depot.”, “Auto: took 5 items out of the depot.” and “Auto: deposited 260 gold.”. If the way to the depot chest or to Penrose is blocked, the chat says so (“Auto: the depot chest could not be reached; nothing stored.” or “Auto: the banker could not be reached; the gold stays carried.”), the trip goes on with the rest, and the summary counts the stop that was out of reach.

The summary

When a hunt ends by itself, a summary shows what happened, the experience and gold per hour, and one line of advice:

  • “Too risky: try Careful.”: it died, fled too often or had nowhere left to go.
  • “Carry more potions.”: the potions ran out.
  • “Too tough: get better gear.”: the fights took too long.
  • “Few creatures: see Route.”: there were few creatures there.
  • “A good run.”: all went well.

Its limits

Auto hunts in the town you are in and never takes a boat. Underground, it only enters hunting grounds. When it stops by itself, a sound plays and it shows you why.

Training on the dummy

In the camp beside the temple stands a training dummy. Active training trains with the game open, for 15 minutes up to 12 hours. Train offline saves and closes the game; while it is closed, the skill of the weapon in your hand rises at half speed, for up to 12 hours.
