Items and Shops

Weapons, armour, potions and tools, with prices and sellers.

Buying and selling

Say hi to a merchant and then trade, or just tap them to open the menu. The shop shows its goods in slots, like your backpack. On the Buy tab, whatever you cannot pay for or carry is greyed out. The Sell tab shows only what you carry, most valuable first. A price in red means another NPC pays more.

  • Sell loot here sells at once all the loot that NPC buys. It shows the list and the total first.
  • Supplies, in the NPC menu, buys potions, food and rope a few at a time: “Buy 5 small health potions · 100 gold?”.
  • Hover over an item to see where it comes from and who buys it.

Weapons

  • Garrick, in Kestrelby: dagger (5), hand axe (8), spear (10), rapier (15), axe (20), short sword (30), sabre (35), broadsword (65). He buys weapons too.
  • Marigold, in Kestrelby: much the same, a little cheaper.
  • The Hooded Orc, on the hill north of the river: trades only once you say the right words. Sells the sword (85), longsword (110), bow (400), crossbow (520), arrows and bolts.
  • Old Sorrel, in the hut in the woods: the ashwood wand (150), which shoots fire and spends mana.
  • Some weapons only drop from creatures, like the Barrow Warden’s blade in Grubmaw’s vault.

Armour and shields

  • Marigold: coat, jacket, doublet, leather armour (22), helmets, boots, wooden shield (13), buckler (32) and studded shield (47).
  • The Hooded Orc: leather armour (25), studded helmet (63) and studded armour (90). Studded armour opens the way into the Warhorn depths.
  • Better armour drops from orcs, skeletons and bosses.

Potions

  • Small health potion (heals 50): 20 gold from Briony, Old Sorrel, Orla and Hesper; 25 from Nettle.
  • Antidote (cures poison): 50 from Briony, 60 from Nettle.

Food

Bread (3), cheese (5) and ham (8) from Nell, Tobin, Ned, Mags and Hesper. You only regain health and mana while you are fed, and far faster inside a protection zone.

Tools

  • Torch (2): for the dark caves. It goes in your free hand.
  • Rope (50): to go down and back up through rope holes.
  • Shovel (10 from Old Jory, 9 from Marigold): digs loose earth and, if you must, graves.
  • Pick: no shop sells one. Old Jory trades his spare pick for a goblin’s small axe, from level 4; one goblin in ten in the west troll cave drops one, in the room east of the stairs.
  • Fishing rod (150) and worms (1): fish in the river or in Brackwater’s bay and sell your catch.
  • Bags: bag, red bag, satchel and backpack, to carry more. Bags go inside each other eight levels deep at most, your backpack being the first: a bag that would go deeper is refused (“You cannot put more containers inside each other.”) and stays where it was, and a bag you buy or are given when the only room left is that deep falls at your feet.

The middle grave

In the walled graveyard in the north-east, the middle grave north of the stairs can be dug open. Use a shovel from your backpack or the hotbar beside it, or press E there with a shovel in your backpack: “You dig the grave open. A dark hole gapes below.” Without a shovel, E tells you that you need one.

Walk into the hole and you drop into the east chamber of the Wormwarren, among the mireworms. There is no climbing back up through the hole: take the Wormwarren’s stairs. The grave stays open for good, and your save remembers it. Auto and a click on the map never walk into it.

What to sell

Hobb, in Kestrelby, buys what the creatures leave behind: orc tooth (40), wool (10), bear paw (10), orc leather (8), wolf paw (7) and more.
